Duro Strada - proudly fuelled by caffeine

The Idea:
Chatting over a coffee (ok, lots of coffees!) an idea was born. Sick of being poorly treated by club teams, corporate teams, wannabe teams and the occasional Euro amateur team, six Australian cyclists decided enough was enough! Let’s create our own team! Simple, right?

We Need Kit!

Of course the fundamentals of a team is that all members wear the same kit, l’es vêtement de l’equipe. But what? Search magazines. Look at Cyclingnews. Watch SBS. Ride down Beach Rd and take particular note over which kit is chic which is shit. “

“Pro teams have cool kit right? We’ll just copy one of them!”

“Don’t be gay”

We needed something stylish. Something with class. Something modern. Something we all like. Something that hasn’t been done a million times before. And importantly, something that isn’t toally gay! By early 2008 it was decided. We knew. And we agreed. Only one thing was missing…

The Name:

Normally the name of a team would be simple. The biggest sponsor gets it. Sometimes there’s a side-sponsor that also wants the name. “United States Postal Service Cycling Team Poudly Presented By Berry Floor“. Hmmm bit of a mouthful don’t you say? Regardless of which, without a sponsor a name was not too easy to think of. Time to brainstorm (over coffee)…

“Team Naught”

“Gay”

“Team Zero”

“Don’t rate it”

“Team Shunter Hubbards”

“Got a certain ring to it, I guess”

“What about something Euro?”

“Yeah like what”

“Duro Strada”

“Huh???”

“It’s Italian. It means ‘Hard Road‘”

“Hmmm”

Hmmm indeed.

And suddenly what was just an idea, is a reality. Welcome to our website, enjoy!
